The Japanese manga and anime series Captain Tsubasa launched a soccer game with the icon

Japanese manga and anime series Captain Tsubasa has launched a non-fungible token (NFT) football game on the Oasys blockchain, a platform focused on Web3 games.

On May 20, Oaysis announced that Captain Tsubasa, a popular manga and anime from the 1980s written and illustrated by Japanese author Yōichi Takahashi, would release an NFT version of the soccer game on the blockchain for its Web3 Games.

The Web3 game, created by Web3 development platforms Mint Town and Blocksmith, was first revealed in 2022 and officially launched on January 12, 2023. The project also released its governance token on June 4, 2023.

The game allows players to collect NFTs of characters from the original anime series. It allows players to develop characters, form teams, and play in different modes within the game.

Rival mode allows players to revisit the original story, while Player versus Player (PvP) mode allows players to play against other players online. In addition, the game also features an arena mode where players can play in 11 versus 11 football matches.

According to Mint Town CEO Hiroshi Kunimitsu, the integration into the Oasys blockchain gives fans a “new way” to experience the anime story. Kunimitsu added that the release demonstrates the capabilities of blockchain technology in “enhancing interactive entertainment and gaming.”

The manga series was first published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1981 and was adapted into an anime series in 1983.

Several films and television series followed, most recently in 2018. By 2023, the series had sold 90 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling manga series of all time.

To commemorate the game’s launch on Oasys, Genesis NFTs will include additional features, such as increasing players’ power points.
